Bush assailant kick-starts sales for shoemaker – CNN.com.
The American way finds its way to Iraq.
(CNN) — The shoes thrown last week at U.S. President George W. Bush have provided an unexpected windfall for the shoemaker who made them.

President Bush, left, ducks a shoe as Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki tries to protect him.
Sales of the shoes made famous by Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi have soared, with requests pouring in to the Turkish shoemaker from across the world, media reports said Monday.
As a result, Istanbul-based Ramazan Baydan has had to recruit an extra 100 staff to meet orders for 300,000 pairs of the “Model 271 brogues,” Britain’s Daily Mail said.
According to the company, Model 271 shoes are exported to markets including Iraq, Iran, Syria and Egypt. Last week customers in Iraq ordered 120,000 pairs and some Iraqis offered to set up distribution companies for the shoe, Baydan told Bloomberg.

Chargers beat Buccaneers to stay in playoff race – Los Angeles Times.
Have I ever mentioned I love the Chargers!!! I have a really good feeling about next week. This is the right time to get hot.
Reporting from Tampa, Fla. — Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers did everything they could to save their season.
The NFL’s highest-rated passer threw for 287 yards and four touchdowns, helping the Chargers beat Tampa Bay, 41-24, to keep their playoff hopes alive and deal a tough blow to the Buccaneers’ chances.
After their third consecutive victory in what amounted to elimination games, San Diego (7-8) got help when Buffalo beat Denver, 30-23. The Broncos and Chargers meet next week in San Diego in a showdown for the division title.
Tampa Bay (9-6) could have clinched a wild-card spot with a win and some help.
Quoteworthy: “I think we are playing like a playoff team. . . . Hopefully, it’s not too late.” — LaDainian Tomlinson, Chargers running back

The Associated Press: Chargers, Bucs collide with playoff implications.
Think good thoughts!!!
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Forget all the potential tiebreaker scenarios and what others teams need to do to help the cause. It’s not difficult to figure out what the San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers must do to stay in the race for playoff berths.
The division winners from a year ago have followed different paths to contention, but both desperately need to win Sunday at Raymond James Stadium to bolster chances of advancing to the postseason again.
In San Diego’s case, it’s beat the Bucs (9-5) or the chase is over. Even then, the Chargers (6-8) need Buffalo to beat Denver later in the day to set up a showdown with the Broncos for the AFC West title next week.
“We’ve got to win or we can forget it,” Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said.

Skate at Wrigley
The Blackhawks are playing the Red Wings on January 1 at Wrigley Field in the outdoor Winter Classic. On January 4th, surrounding residents will get to lace em up and skate their too for $10. I think it would be well worth the cost to do that, although I’d like to see the game also.
