Where is the iPhone 3.0 Software Update?

Published by Fabio under iphone

Apple – iPhone – New features in the iPhone 3.0 Software Update.

Well, here it is June 17th 9:15am CST and no 3.0 software yet.  What’s up with that?  I would have thought it would have been released at 12:01am PST at the very least.  Now I am going to have to sit here all day hitting the check for update button in iTunes.  For goodness sake, let’s get this party started!

How To Play/Listen To Video Podcasts In The Background On An iPhone

Published by Fabio under iphone

How To Play/Listen To Video Podcasts In The Background On An iPhone – Erik Vold’s Blog.

Starting yesterday one of my favorite podcasts, BuzzOutLoud began to include video in their podcast RSS itunes.  I do enjoy watching the video however often when I travel I like to listen while using another app on my iphone.  Unfortunately the iphone does not work like the old iPod Classic where you could select the video as audio only.

I asked google what I should do and came across this wonderful work around on Erik Vold’s site.

7 Step Solution/Tip/Trick/Run Around

  1. Open the “iPod” app
  2. Play a video podcast in the “podcasts” section of the “iPod” app.
  3. Press the home button, which exits the “iPod” app, returning you to the home screen.
  4. Turn off the screen.
  5. Double press the home button.
  6. Press play.
  7. Unlock the screen.
  8. Now the video’s audio should be playing in the background, and you should be at the home screen where you can select an app.

What to expect from iPhone 3.0 – Apple 2.0

Published by Fabio under Posts

What to expect from iPhone 3.0 – Apple 2.0.

Any and/or all of these would be great:

  • Copy and paste. Better two years late than never, according to multiple sources. See, for example, here and here.
  • Push notification. So Facebook, say, could alert you when you have a new message. This was promised in June 2008, but not yet delivered.
  • MMS — Multimedia Messaging Service. So you can forward those pictures sent to you by friends with far less sophisticated cell phones. Maybe yes, maybe no.
  • Better mail program. Why can’t you search past messages? Read them in landscape mode? Delete then en masse?
  • Internet sharing. For those times when your iPhone has access but your laptop doesn’t. Apple and AT&T have both said so-called “tethering” is coming real soon now.
  • Bluetooth support. Currently available only for phone headsets. Could be expanded to support wireless keyboards, speaker systems, file exchanges, syncing etc.
  • Flash support. So you’d see videos and dancing advertisements instead of those little blue cubes. Adobe (ADBE) says its Flash Player software is ready and waiting for Apple’s approval.
  • Better App management. The current interface is barely capable of organizing 148 applications, never mind 28,000.
  • Voice dialing and turn-by-turn directions. Quick, before iPhone users cause any more traffic accidents.
  • Video capture. It can be done without modifying the built-in camera as iPhone Video Recorder, an application available only for jailbroken iPhones, has shown.
  • A new browser. The current version of iPhone Safari is nearly two years old and starting to get a little long in the tooth.
